Draft would be changing to 1 RD and Booster Picks. This system would be implemented for the 2025 Draft or possibly later. We would still have at least 2 more drafts under the current system. 1. Draft is 1 rd 2. 1st rd = Player 2nd = +2 3rd = +1 4th = +1 3. There is a max a Player Can be boosted 4. Picks can be traded, if you have unused picks/boosters, they DO NOT carry over to the next year. You dont use them, you lose them 5. Each slot will have a designated MAX overall before the draft has started. 6. Players will still have a range of overalls they can be. EXAMPLE
Player A is drafted at 72 OA and max for his draft slot is 78 OA. Team has all their draft picks and can boost that player to 76 OA. If they wanted to reach 78 OA, they would need to trade for another teams boosters/picks. 72 +2 (2nd rd pick) = 74 74 +1 (3rd rd pick) = 75 75 +1 (4th rd pick) = 76 This would help with the number of created players coming into the league year after year. Some GMs are also concerned that as more seasons go by, 2nd rd picks have less and less value to them. Draft Picks for the 2025 Draft will not be allowed to be traded until we have decided if we will implement this system. For any questions regarding this new system, please reach out to Tampa Bay Lightning GM & Buffalo Sabres GM

This system was flawed when it was done years ago, and it created roster problems down the line, in terms of teams being too strong and probably unrealistic.
I’ll always vote against this idea, but at the end of the day, I won’t care because it’s not my league.

I mean the performance upgrades have done that with the system we’re in now like 10x as bad as the old system lol. But I think that the system we have in place works but after 5-6 seasons it doesn’t and that’s what’s missing from this thread. I think we should keep the current system for the first 5 or 6 seasons and then switch. Like the new system gives out way too many upgrades since now we have the main upgrades and performance upgrades. Like this new system is making 85s not get signed that’s how flawed the system is look at rockem lol. After 5-6 seasons 2nd round picks are us useless as leagues will go what maybe 8 seasons before a reboot so not sure why anyone would want to keep the current system at all

Is there a vote button for “I don’t really care what it’s like, let’s just have fun”?

As long as you cant upgrade a 1st rounder to an 85 it shouldnt get too out of hand

Is there a vote button for “I don’t really care what it’s like, let’s just have fun”? Yes fun but fun is also developing your players. I just think after 5 or 6 seasons we should switch to this new system which Detroit Red Wings GM should also say in this thread as everyone knows reboots do happen and I’m sure we will reboot to nhl 22 once it comes out also

As long as you cant upgrade a 1st rounder to an 85 it shouldnt get too out of hand Then the prospects need to be a lower rating for it to work. Because, there’s going to be a common case where certain teams are gonna stockpile picks, and move them for premiums for teams who need that max boost on a player. Creates terrible business on that end.

Tampa Bay Lightning GM does have a point that people start wanting a reboot when we are at or close to the 10th season. They want to try and start fresh with a new team. So those 2nd rd picks in seasons 6-10 might not have the time to develop into anything and so they tend to not hold much value to anyone.

Creates terrible business on that end. Yes, prospects would start at lower overall than what the current draft system has them at. Nothing is finalized but they would probably start 7-10 OA lower than what they are now. So this year's 1st pick was (80,80,81,82) and under the new system it would be the following This is just a rough estimate but the 1st pick might be (73,74,75,76) to start with a max of (80,81,82,83) for that slot. This part of the new system is the only thing that has not been decided on. I was never in any leagues before that had this system, so it's all new to me EDIT: Max for each slot would be decided on before the draft. Only thing not known would be the starting overall of the player. We would still use a range of overalls for that.

I think this is a great fix for trading. most GMs think the value of a 2nd round pick is useless.

Tampa Bay Lightning GM , 2026 at the earliest. Problem is I don't really know how it will work and someone else will need to do it for the first few drafts until I fully understand how it will work league wide.
