Ellis hasn’t performed well and with his contact I wouldn’t be surprised if people would want something else with him in order to take it on, I know I would and was even offered it.
At the end of the day, he’s already overpaid and has 4 years left on his deal.

Honestly, with the right core, Ellis can be effective.
He shouldn't be used as a simple cap dump. There needs to be *something* of substance coming back.

Everyone in FA is in the same category for downgrades as Ellis, Ellis has a better chance of getting an upgrade over most of the FA defencemen. CGY's roster says he is under the cap floor, so saying the trade is for cap reasons makes no sense. |
