Does Boston fully understand that this is a bad trade for his team? Subban is a top 10 goalie the past 2 seasons for SV% among all starters and thats while playing for 2 teams.
You are giving away your starter for a guy you only need for 2 wks, possibly 3 wks. Subban comes back beginning of Feb. I cant remember if it said Feb 1 or Feb 7 when it flashed on screen in game.
That cap savings means nothing because now BOS will need to find a starter for next season or be forced to MPU his backup to give himself a competent goalie. Also, BOS has like 5M in cap space, so they are not hurting for cap.
Varlamov can only be downgraded and will most likely be 85 OA or lower after this season. Once a player hits 35 yrs old, they are no longer able to get upgrades and will only be downgraded, they get one of the following, (0,1,2) each offseason. It's RNG based.
EDIT: They get the age downgrade and any potential seasonal performance downgrade. (0-2) + (-3,-2,-1,0). They could potentially get a -5 or they could get a 0 for their downgrade. I just want to make sure BOS and any new GMs understand that at 35 and older, they can't be upgraded, only downgraded.
Also that being 35 or 36 does not guarantee they will get a downgrade. Only guarantee is that they will get no upgrade.

See i feel like an idiot when i make trades beacuse someone always go and does some philosophical shit and makes me feel like a dumbas cause i make a bad trade if your goal is to make the playoffs and you don't plan on re-signing subban because you want a different starter or Montembeault to start, then it's a fine trade. Takes time to fully understand how everything works, my hope is anyone trading with a newer GM will be upfront with them and explain stuff like the possible age downgrade that may change the outlook of a trade. |
